10 reasons to have LONG HAIR

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 18, 2012, 3:17 PM

Journal

1. Attraction: more people seem to like guys with long hair

2. Humour: when you are mistaken for a girl (not ALWAYS funny)

3. Shyness: something to hide behind

4. Sensuality: the feel of long hair against naked skin

5. Originality: there's not really that many guys who have long hair

6. Headbanging:  have you ever seen someone headbanging with short hair? It looks like  they're trying to dislodge a bug from their ear. Hence, my next point...

7. Protection: to keep bugs from flying in your ears

8. Excuse: "I can't go out with you tonight. I'm washing my hair"

9. Sex: something for your partner to hang on to... as if =P

10. Identity: It's an essential part of who I am

ok, so i was bored :D

I am half Apache (native american tribe) and my hair is past the middle of my back...to an Apache this is an act of humbleness to The Great Spirit...not an act of human pride or a warriors dressing...

oh wow, i did not know that! :) I have a lot of respect for the Native Americans. I always felt a kinship for them ever since i was young. A psychic once told me i had past lives as one.

I did the poll as a bit of fun, but i always thought there was a spiritual connection with long hair. If i lost my long hair i feel i would lose part of my soul.

thank you for telling me this :) why was it an act of humility? i would love to know more.

For an Apache it is an act of humility to the Great Spirit...and the Great Spirit is the great connection between the Apache and the land they live on...

Your very welcome...one other small thing Apaches love knives...I carry at least 3 with me at all times...does that give you an insight into my tribe...?

does it mean the Apaches are natural warriors?

Yes it does...a General from the US 6th cavalry said fighting us was like fighting tigers...this was in the late 1880's...

what's the situation like today? Do Apache's have their own land and are they free to live their own ways?

As a man with long hair, I can safely say I've done (and agree to) all of those reasons.
Long hair for life!

Awesome reasons. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe while I was reading reason number six, as it made me think of the last metal festival I went to. A guy with no hear at all, completely bald, and no beard, were headbanging beside me and he looked exactly like that. :XD: It looked extremely funny, and I felt slightly sorry for him because my hair kinda 'whipped' his face while I was headbanging, and he had no hair to protect his face from that while he was headbanging himself. (A reason more to have long hair.)

I have two more (beside the one I have already mentioned):
1. During winter, long (in my chase also 'thick') hair is good when you have cold ears, and if it is long enough, you can use it as a scarf. :) (I used to do that, as it is really warming, before my mother forced me, much against my will - I'm still angry about it -, to get a haircut.)
2. Long hair is just better than short hair. End of discussion. :)

To be honest, I think it would turn out to be a bit disgusting after you've done it a couple of times, and you would also have to wash you hair more often. So no, I wouldn't recommend that. (;

 glad it gave you a laugh! yeah, when i first saw a short-haired guy headbanging, i thought wtf?! I thought it was just a long haired thing. And i thought how much it looked like he had something stuck in his ear, lol

funny u should mention that too, cos i was going to add 'warmth' to the list :D i get cold ears too, and if it wasn't for my hair, my neck would freeze also!
why the heck would your mum force u to cut your hair?? :(

Haha.

Same here. I'm normally never freezing except when it is really cold, and when I do, is it usually my hands, neck and ears, so with my hair and a pair of gloves, I'm not freezing at all, not even without a jacket. :)

Because I had denied to get my hair cut for three and a half year, so the tips looked "horrible" if you ask her, so she forced me to get twenty centimeters cut off. :( And now the length of my hair is between the middle of my back and my behind, while it could have been below my behind. :hmm:

yep, it's my hands and ears which get cold most of all. I wear a wool hat in freezing weather or else my ears go red, hehe

it's good to cut your hair a little on a regular basis cos the ends will go dry and it keeps your hair healthy. but 20cm is a LOT of hair to cut! the most i will go for is about 3 cm.

Heh. :)
I almost always have to wear gloves or something (during late autumn, winter ans early spring) abound my wrists because there's something wrong with the joint of my hands, which means it hurts when they're cold. /:

I know. The reason behind my denying (it was five years ago), was that the previously hairstylist did cut off ten centimeters instead of five, which of course made me angry, and I decided that she weren't allowed to cut me ever again.
Then three and a half years later my mother forced me to get a haircut, unfortunately it had to be the same woman as last time, we agreed that instead of twenty centimeters, it would be okay with ten.
And yet, although I told her to 'only' cut off ten centimeters, that stupid bitch decided to cut off twenty centimeters!! :pissed:
I have found another hairstylist to cut my hair by now (and I'm quite happy with her), but I have sworn that if the other one (although the chances are very small) ever touches my hair again, I'll break her fingers one by one. It might sound like I am overreacting, but as you mentioned in the last one of your reasons, your hair is a part of your identity, as well as it is a part of mine.

i almost got frostbite in my hands once! stupid me. They ached for a long time.
and that must be a problem :/

there was a hairstylist who messed up my hair too. she cut off way too much and i never saw a hairstylist ever again. (i cut my own hair). and i can understand your anger! i felt the same way.

Just so you know... I think my brain short-circuited a bit when I read number nine.

All excellent points. Well... almost all excellent points. I think the bonus of not getting bug-filled ears is negated by all the risks of sitting on your own hair or shutting it in a door (both of which I have done...); and if somebody gets mad at you... one yank and they have instant revenge! Haha.

Just out of curiosity... how long is your hair?

long hair doesn't keep bugs and stuff out of your ears, and the feeling of wind going through it or someone running their fingers through it
